    1.How do I know what level I am?

    On the first day of the program you will take a proficiency test to determine your level of Japanese. The test consists of written and interview. Classes are divided into three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. If you have never studied Japanese, we will place you in a class according to your objective in studying Japanese and how long you plan to study.

    2.What time are the classes held?

    Classes are held from 9 am to 1 pm, Monday to Friday (four 50 minute long classes). There will be 2 to 3 week spring, summer, and fall and winter vacation.

    3.Is it possible to purchase a student commuter pass?

    You can buy a student commuter pass for Toei subway (Mita Line, Shinjuku Line, Asakusa Line, Ooedo Line), Toei Bus, and Toden.

    4.Where are the students mostly from?

    Most students are from Asia (Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong etc.) but there are some students from other countries (France, Spain, Nigeria etc.). Currently students from 16 different countries are studying at YMCA. We welcome students from all over the world.

    5.What happens after finishing Japanese Language School program?

    Many students enter university and/or vocational college. However there are some who start working after the program.

    6.Are instructions held only in Japanese?

    Yes, instructions are held only in Japanese. It’s a rule not to use other languages. Since students are from different countries, Japanese is the common language of communication. We encourage students to use Japanese even during breaks.

    7.Is it difficult to get a college student visa?

    Students need to show a strong commitment to studying Japanese as well as financial security to pay for tuition, living expenses and other related costs.
